Traditionally, those seeking to sell valuable items might assume that a public auction would be the most profitable way of ensuring the best prices for their goods. However, spiraling fees and commissions charged by auctioneers now mean that buyers always bid below market value and the auction house will take a huge percentage of the price achieved.
Selling through an auctioneer is rarely cost-effective and you might only receive half of the true value of your goods.
Hepplewhites offers a unique home visit service across the UK, where you can get a free, no-obligation valuation for your items in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
Should our valuation be acceptable, we can agree to purchase your items there and then. As we are often buying on behalf of discerning clients which include private collectors, interior designers and international dealers. We can often pay prices for goods that are unachievable in an auction room.
No fees, premiums, insurance or transport costs. You receive 100% of our valuation for your items, guaranteed.

Why are we passionate about antiques?
We have a passion for buying and selling antiques that goes beyond simply conducting transactions. We are interested in preserving history and celebrating craftsmanship; fascinated by the stories and heritage behind each piece, from the intricacy of a vintage pocket watch to the artistry of fine jewellery and sculptures.
Our love for antiques drives us to seek out rare and beautiful items, taking pride in connecting these treasures with new owners who appreciate their uniqueness and history. Fostering these connections gives these timeless pieces a new lease of life, ensuring they continue to be cherished for generations to come, whilst guaranteeing you the highest prices possible when you sell through us.
What makes Hepplewhites stand out?
Hepplewhites sets itself apart by purchasing your items directly and providing immediate payment from the comfort of your own home.
Unlike using an auction house, this means you won’t have to wait months for a potential sale that may never happen. With over 30 years’ experience and a network of private collectors, we possess a deep understanding of market values, current trends and collector demand. This expertise allows us to offer you the best possible price and a guaranteed sale.
Auction sales example
Most auction houses are now taking over 40% in commission on lots below £10,000.
In addition, it may take up to three months after the auction house consigns your pieces, for the first appropriate sale to occur and at least another further month until you are paid, making a total of four months before you receive any payment.
Any unsold pieces will be re-entered to another sale and can take several months for the next suitable sale. Furthermore, since the item has already been exposed to the market, you will have to lower your price in order to encourage the sale, as your item will now be less appealing to potential customers.

What our clients say about us...
"I inherited my father’s silver collection and wasn’t sure what to do with it. Hepplewhites and Mark guided me through its history, paid me immediately, and I’m glad the pieces are going to someone who shares my father’s passion."
Mrs Barron, London
"I had old gold jewellery I no longer wore, and after being shocked at the low prices elsewhere, I decided to keep it until I found Hepplewhites. They valued each piece individually, paid straight away, and even came to my home. "
Fiona, Edinburgh
"I had a collection of oil paintings that I put up for auction a few years ago, but only a few sold. When I discovered Hepplewhites, I gave it a try. They purchased all the unsold pieces and paid more than the auction estimate, with no commissions."
Mr Wood, Ipswich
"After my mother passed, we didn’t know what to do with her furniture, silver, and ceramics. Hepplewhites guided us through probate, and once finalised, we sold everything to them. They made a difficult time much easier, and we’re very grateful."
Mrs Prince, Nottingham
"I have been using Hepplewhites for the last 15 years. Their personal service is second to none and I have always found their prices to be very fair. I have given their name to many of my friends who are of the same opinion. I could not recommend them more highly. "
Sarah Reid, London
"I inherited a collection of jewellery and watches that had been valued for probate by an auction house, and was recommended by a friend to use Hepplewhites. It was far easier than taking everything to different dealers, and their prices matched the auction values, but without the commissions or long wait times. "
Jayne, Taunton
